AFS Intercultural Programs is seeking a mission-driven Alumni Coordinator to support the AFS Global STEM Changemakers Initiative: a suite of fully-funded intercultural exchange programs serving 1,000+ participants annually. This role works directly with the AFS Sponsored Programs team, and leads communications and engagement for the rapidly growing community of Global STEM alumni. The ideal candidate is passionate about intercultural engagement, digital communication, and community-building at scale.

  • Location: Remote
  • Start Date: February 2026 (flexible)
  • Commitment: Full-time (~40 hours/week)
  • Reports to: Program Manager, Sponsored Programs at AFS International
  • Compensation: ~$35,000 USD. Please note, the Coordinator will serve as a project-based consultant / independent contractor with an annual contract and is not a salaried employee.

Core Responsibilities

The Alumni Coordinator will support the growth, engagement, and ongoing management of the AFS Global STEM alumni community across four core responsibility areas:

Alumni Communications & Storytelling

  • Produce and distribute two regular newsletters: The AFS Global STEM Alumni Newsletter for all 5,000+ Global STEM alumni, and the specialized Education & Employability Newsletter for a subset of alumni engaged in career and mentorship initiatives with the program funder, bp.
  • Publish at least one alumni spotlight per month on the website and LinkedIn group.
  • Support the Program Manager in crafting a compelling alumni narrative for the annual report.
  • Ensure all communications are engaging, inclusive, globally relevant, and on-brand.

Digital Community & Engagement

  • Grow and moderate the LinkedIn alumni group, expanding participation from ~2,000 active members and engaging the broader community.
  • Maintain the Global STEM alumni website, keeping information on newsletters, opportunities, LinkedIn, and applications current.
  • Develop at least one alumni engagement activity per quarter, including virtual meet-ups, focus groups, or in-person events where feasible.
  • Organize and track participation in the Alumni Mentor program.

Data Management & Records

  • Maintain accurate alumni data across Salesforce, Mailchimp, and Google Drive, including emails, participation records, and engagement history.
  • Track and analyze alumni engagement to inform strategy and improvement.

Collaboration & Administrative Support

  • Coordinate with the Program Manager and external stakeholders, including bp’s Education & Employability team (the program funder), to support alumni initiatives.
  • Share insights and best practices to strengthen AFS-wide alumni engagement.
  • Demonstrate initiative, reliability, and professionalism in a fully virtual, cross-cultural environment.

Requirements

  • Strong interpersonal, cross-cultural, organizational, writing, and time-management skills.
  • Creative, adaptable, and able to work independently and collaboratively.
  • Clear, engaging, and professional communicator in English, with attention to detail. Eligible candidates may be asked to provide samples of previous work, such as a community newsletter, annual report, promotional campaign, or similar.
  • Must be a minimum of 18+ years of age to apply.
  • Stable wifi/internet connection with a video-enabled device. Regular video meetings via Zoom are required (AFS provides access to all platforms).
