AFS Intercultural Programs participated in The Stevens Initiative 2020 Survey of the Virtual Exchange Field, contributing data on the virtual AFS Global You Adventurer program to help illuminate the field of virtual exchanges. The survey results document the virtual exchange programs that connected young people in the United States with peers in countries around the world from fall 2019 through summer 2020.

“Sharing results from the survey will help virtual exchange practitioners, educators, policy makers, and other stakeholders make decisions about future programming. Information about the field will be particularly useful amid the transformation to education and exchange made necessary by the coronavirus pandemic,” states The Stevens Initiative, an international effort to build global competence and career readiness skills for young people in the United States and the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) by growing and enhancing the field of virtual exchange.

AFS Global You Adventurer is a part of the suite of AFS online programs which provide teens with intercultural learning experience during this time when travel is restricted. Global You Adventurer focuses on the basics of building global competence and runs 5 weeks for 20 hours of learning. In 2020, 300 teens from 40+ countries completed the program with a 94% overall satisfaction rate. There are two start dates every month in 2021. Find out more about the program and enroll.
