AFS Intercultural Programs is offering 50 full scholarships for the AFS Global STEM Educators: Mauritania-Senegal program – an educational exchange and professional development workshop for secondary STEM teachers focused on practical teaching strategies, sustainability, and global competence.
As global forces such as climate change, artificial intelligence, and sustainable development reshape societies, educators are essential to preparing young people with the skills to navigate and thrive in an interconnected world. This program equips teachers in Mauritania and Senegal with practical tools to make STEM learning more engaging, locally relevant, and better connected to real-world challenges.
“Educators are some of the most powerful catalysts for positive change,” said Sean Reilly, Director of Program Development at AFS. “We designed this program to equip teachers with practical tools, global perspectives, and a peer network to better connect classroom learning with real-world challenges and opportunities.”
Applications are now open for the 2026 program, which combines virtual learning with in-person workshops in Dakar and Nouakchott. The virtual program will run from 8 August – 5 September online, followed by in-person workshops in Dakar (9-12 September) and Nouakchott (14-17 September).
Participants will explore global citizenship education, strengthen teaching methods, and learn strategies for integrating sustainability into their classrooms. The program is intended to support educators in building learning environments that strengthen students’ critical thinking, collaboration, and 21st-century skills. Upon completion, participants receive the award-winning AFS Global Competence Certificate and join a global alumni network of educators working to expand educational collaboration across regions.
Eligibility:
- Applicants must be legal adults (18 years or older)
- Legal residents of Mauritania or Senegal
- Current teachers of STEM subjects at the secondary level
- Must be comfortable participating in English. Supplementary support will be available in French and Arabic, but English is the primary language of instruction.
The scholarship covers all program costs, including training, certification, a travel stipend, accommodation, and meals during the in-person workshops.

The scholarships are part of the AFS Global STEM Changemakers Initiative, which delivers immersive learning experiences in STEM, sustainability, and intercultural education for students and educators worldwide.
Funding is provided by bp, supporting efforts to build a more sustainable future while advancing diversity and inclusion in STEM. Since launching in 2022, the initiative has reached 4,100 participants across 125 countries.

AFS Intercultural Programs offre 50 bourses complètes dans le cadre du programme AFS Global STEM Educators: Mauritanie-Sénégal – un programme d’échange éducatif et de développement professionnel destiné aux enseignants du secondaire en sciences, technologie, ingénierie et mathématiques (STEM). Ce programme repose sur des méthodes pédagogiques pratiques, le développement durable et les compétences globales et interculturelles.
Alors que des enjeux mondiaux tels que le changement climatique, l’intelligence artificielle et le développement durable transforment les sociétés, les éducateurs jouent un rôle essentiel dans la préparation des jeunes aux compétences nécessaires pour évoluer et réussir dans un monde interconnecté. Ce programme vise à fournir aux enseignants en Mauritanie et au Sénégal des outils pratiques pour rendre l’apprentissage des STEM plus engageant, plus pertinent localement et mieux connecté aux défis du monde réel.
« Les enseignants comptent parmi les plus puissants catalyseurs du changement positif », déclare Sean Reilly, Directeur du développement des programmes chez AFS. « Nous avons conçu ce programme afin de leur fournir des outils pratiques, une ouverture internationale et un réseau de pairs leur permettant de mieux relier l’apprentissage en classe aux défis et opportunités du monde réel. »
Les candidatures sont ouvertes pour le programme 2026. Il combine apprentissage virtuel et ateliers en présentiel à Dakar et Nouakchott. Le programme en ligne se déroulera du 8 août au 5 septembre, suivi d’ateliers en présentiel à Dakar (9–12 septembre) et à Nouakchott (14–17 septembre).
Les participants exploreront les concepts de citoyenneté mondiale, renforceront leurs méthodes d’enseignement et apprendront des stratégies pour intégrer le développement durable dans leurs classes. Le programme vise à aider les enseignants à créer des environnements d’apprentissage qui renforcent la pensée critique, la collaboration et les compétences du XXIe siècle.
À la fin du programme, les participants recevront le prestigieux AFS Global Competence Certificate, reconnu à l’échelle internationale, et rejoindront un réseau mondial d’anciens élèves et d’enseignants engagés dans la coopération éducative internationale.
Conditions d’éligibilité :
- Être âgé(e) de 18 ans ou plus
- Être résident(e) légal(e) du Sénégal ou de la Mauritanie
- Enseigner actuellement une matière STEM au niveau secondaire
- Être capable de participer aux échanges en anglais. Un accompagnement complémentaire sera disponible en français et en arabe, mais l’anglais demeure la langue principale du programme.
La bourse couvre tous les coûts du programme, y compris la formation, la certification, une indemnité de voyage, l’hébergement et les repas pendant les ateliers en présentiel.

تقدّم مؤسسة AFS هذه المنح الدراسية ضمن برنامجها العالمي لمعلمي العلوم والتكنولوجيا والهندسة والرياضيات، وهو برنامج للتبادل التعليمي والتطوير المهني لمعلمي المرحلة الثانوية في مجالات العلوم والتكنولوجيا والهندسة والرياضيات (STEM)، ويركز على استراتيجيات التدريس العملية، والاستدامة، والكفاءة العالمية.
في ظل التحولات العالمية المتسارعة التي تقودها قضايا مثل تغير المناخ والذكاء الاصطناعي والتنمية المستدامة، يلعب المعلمون دورًا محوريًا في إعداد الشباب بالمهارات اللازمة للتكيف والنجاح في عالم مترابط. ويزوّد هذا البرنامج المعلمين بأدوات عملية تجعل تعلم STEM أكثر تشويقًا وارتباطًا بالواقع المحلي، وأكثر صلة بالتحديات الحقيقية التي يواجهها العالم.

وقد فُتح باب التقديم الآن لبرنامج عام 2026، الذي يجمع بين التعلم الافتراضي وورش العمل الحضورية في داكار ونواكشوط. وسيُعقد الجزء الافتراضي خلال الفترة من 8 أغسطس إلى 5 سبتمبر 2026، تليه ورش عمل حضورية في داكار من 9 إلى 12 سبتمبر، وفي نواكشوط من 14 إلى 17 سبتمبر.
سيستكشف المشاركون مفاهيم التعليم من أجل المواطنة العالمية، ويعززون أساليب التدريس لديهم، ويتعلمون استراتيجيات دمج الاستدامة في الفصول الدراسية. ويهدف البرنامج إلى دعم المعلمين في بناء بيئات تعليمية تنمّي التفكير النقدي وتعزز التعاون وتطوّر مهارات القرن الحادي والعشرين. وعند إتمام البرنامج، يحصل المشاركون على شهادة الكفاءة العالمية الحائزة على جوائز، وينضمون إلى شبكة عالمية من الخريجين العاملين على توسيع التعاون التعليمي بين مختلف المناطق.
يشترط في المتقدمين أن:
- يكونوا بعمر 18 عامًا أو أكثر
- مقيمين قانونيًا في موريتانيا أو السنغال
- يدرّسون حاليًا مواد العلوم والتكنولوجيا والهندسة والرياضيات في المرحلة الثانوية
- كما يجب أن يكون المشاركون قادرين على التواصل باللغة الإنجليزية، مع توفر دعم إضافي باللغتين الفرنسية والعربية، بينما تبقى الإنجليزية لغة التدريس الأساسية.
