AFS Intercultural Programs is thrilled to announce the continuation of the Effect+ for the Classroom Program and the launch of a new AFS Youth Assembly Impact Program for Africa, thanks to the generous support of the Cyril Taylor Charitable Foundation (CTCF).
In the past four years, the Effect+ for the Classroom program has successfully reached more than 1,000 teachers from over 500 schools and impacted more than 35,000 students across 65 countries.

Effect+ in the Classroom Program equips high-school teachers with tools to engage students in global citizenship, focusing on intercultural skills and global issues. Over the next year, 300 teachers will receive scholarships for the AFS Global Competence Certificate, an award-winning virtual program that develops tangible global skills essential to live, work, and make a real social impact around the world. The most outstanding community-based social impact projects designed by students in participating teachers’ classrooms will receive Sir Cyril Taylor Young Leaders Awards.
The expanded grant funding will allow AFS to add a new AFS Youth Assembly Impact Program for Africa that will prepare the next generation of changemakers and create local community impact. The program will provide scholarships to 10 young leaders from Africa to participate in the next AFS Youth Assembly, as well as receive individual mentoring, seed-funding and support to implement initiatives in their local communities that advance sustainable development.
“The Cyril Taylor Charitable Foundation is pleased to expand the partnership with AFS to support the Youth Assembly and their fine work. AIFS is the sole funder of the CTCF and we will work closely with AFS on this project,” said William L. Gertz, Chairman of the American Institute For Foreign Study (AIFS).
“AFS is committed to fostering intercultural understanding and global citizenship, preparing teachers and young leaders to advance sustainable development both in the classroom and in their communities,” said Daniel Obst, President and CEO of AFS Intercultural Programs. “We are proud to have such a strong partner in the Cyril Taylor Charitable Foundation who share our vision to develop more active global citizens.”
