Participants will spend two weeks at Australia’s renowned Curtin University and a local high school, immersing themselves in STEM activities and excursions. Local students will join AFS students on all activities allowing for a strong intercultural learning experience. Visits will include meeting with local leaders in the STEM fields, cultural outings and museums, and a special emphasis on the Aboriginal perspectives on STEM.
Students engage in exciting laboratory techniques, such as extracting DNA, building a Rube-Goldberg machine, learning about engines, and visits to leading companies in the STEM industries. The structured ICL curriculum includes daily reflections on living and learning in an intercultural group. The program offers a city trip to Berlin as well as free-time activities like geocaching and other outdoor adventures.
This intensive program for more advanced STEM students combines practical lab learning with visits to leading companies in the STEM industries. Students will explore special topics including technology-driven software, robotics, and mobile application development. Outside of the classroom, students will engage in local sightseeing, music, dance, art, sports and yoga. Students have the opportunity to live with a host family for the entire duration and join an intercultural group of high school students from around the world.
Students will join an international STEM camp at Ireland’s renowned Trinity College, located in the heart of Dublin, Ireland’s capital city. Dublin is a burgeoning global tech hub, attracting companies like Facebook, Google and Amazon. This STEM camp will enhance students’ STEM knowledge and skills, expand their scientific English vocabulary and improve problem-solving and critical thinking skills. Students will take part in a varied cultural and social programme and receive a certificate of completion from Trinity College, Walton Club.
The AFS STEM Global Prep Program in Chicago, USA integrates classroom studies, excursions for hands-on exposure and intercultural learning to equip students with interpersonal skills. Weekly themes will include Engineering/Architecture, Energy, Conservation, Environment, and Medicine. These themes and the accompanying activities are designed specifically to increase global competency and STEM knowledge for future leaders. Alongside hands-on workshops and classes, students will experience the city of Chicago – with architectural marvels, world-class museums and beaches there is something for everyone!
