How AFS Keeps Our Participants Safe

AFS carefully screens, vets and selects host families to ensure a safe and supportive environment for participants. Host families undergo interviews, home visits, and training to understand their roles and responsibilities in supporting the well-being of the exchange student.

Each participant is assigned a local support network of volunteers. This network provides ongoing support, guidance, and assistance to participants throughout their program, addressing any concerns or challenges they may face.

AFS provides participants with access to a 24/7 emergency support system. This means that participants can reach out for help or advice at any time, whether it’s related to health issues, safety concerns, or other emergencies. AFS staff and volunteers are trained to respond promptly and effectively to any situation.

AFS provides comprehensive health insurance coverage for participants during their exchange program. This insurance typically covers medical expenses, emergency treatment, evacuation if necessary, and other healthcare needs. Participants are encouraged to understand their insurance coverage and how to access healthcare services in their host country.

AFS conducts regular check-ins with participants to monitor their well-being and adjustment to the program. These check-ins provide an opportunity for participants to discuss any challenges they may be facing and receive support and guidance as needed.

AFS provides participants with clear safety guidelines and training on how to stay safe in various situations, such as traveling, participating in activities, and interacting with others.
