Changemaker

The program lasts 12 weeks total. There are 18 go-at-your-own-speed online modules with videos, activities, quizzes, and discussion forums as well as six live sessions where you can meet, connect, and collaborate with peers from around the world. You’ll spend about 3 hours on the program each week.

We are proud to offer two versions of the program. Teen applicants should be between 15 and under 18 years old on the program start date. These cohorts are overseen and guided by AFS trained and certified facilitators. 

We also welcome global Educators and Teachers ( age 18+), on an ad-hoc basis, in separate cohorts. If you are a teacher or educator interested in organizing a cohort for other educators in your country or community, please contact global.you@afs.org to inquire about timeline and budget.

Yes, participants should have an advanced written & verbal understanding of English language, and should be comfortable participating in live dialogue sessions in English.

That said, our facilitators are here to help make the program as accessible and easily understandable as possible. Program materials are also available in Spanish, and all video assets include captions.

In addition to your creativity and desire to make an impact in the world, you will need:

• A computer, smartphone or other digital device to access the program content and forum.
• An integrated webcam and mic for taking part in the online live sessions
• A stable internet (wifi) connection.
• Ability to record a final 3-5 minute video presentation (can be done on your phone or computer).
• An advanced written & verbal understanding of English language.

Yes! If you successfully meet the certificate requirements then you will get the Advanced Certificate on Global Citizenship for Social Impact issued by AFS and the School of Social Policy & Practice at the University of Pennsylvania.

To earn your Certificate must:

• Attend at least 5 out of the 6 required live sessions on Zoom with peers from around the world,
• Successfully complete all modules and activities in the online learning platform, including quizzes (you can retake the quizzes as many times as you need to achieve your goal—we want you to learn!),
• Successfully complete a social innovation prototype project where you design and get feedback on an idea that can make a social impact.

The program tuition covers:

• The full online program that you can do at your own pace
• 5 live virtual sessions where you meet other teens who are Global Changemakers in real-time
• Online conversation forum to exchange ideas with your peers worldwide
• AFS Qualified Facilitator guiding your learning
• Validators from the Center for Social Impact Strategy at the University of Pennsylvania’s School of Social Policy & Practice who will approve your Social Impact Project.
• Your own Advanced Certificate on Global Citizenship for Social Impact issued by AFS and the School of Social Policy & Practice at the University of Pennsylvania (upon successful completion of the program).

Yes! You will learn different things, meet new people and develop a whole new set of skills in these two programs. We encourage you to sign up for the AFS Global You Changemaker program to keep building your skills and advance on your journey as a global citizen.

Tuition varies from country to country and usually ranges from $250-$490. Please apply with the form and you will receive information on how to pay and the exact amount.
