AFS Intercultural Programs is bringing its educational programs to Vietnam. Starting in 2024, Vietnamese high school students will be able to apply for study abroad and virtual exchange programs in countries around the world. In addition, AFS will select 10 outstanding Vietnamese high school students for full scholarships to participate in the highly competitive AFS high school exchange program.

Vietnam is one of Asia’s fastest growing economies with over 60% of the population under the age of 30 and a strong interest in international education. As Vietnam’s economy continues to thrive, there is a growing need to build global perspectives and strengthen cross-cultural understanding.

Bringing AFS programs to Vietnam promotes intercultural understanding, enhances education, fosters global citizenship, and will support the country’s social and economic development.  Starting in 2024, AFS will offer a variety of educational programs for Vietnamese youth. In the coming years, AFS plans to also offer high school exchange programs in Vietnam, giving young people from around the world to experience Vietnamese culture and language.

“Expanding study abroad programs to Vietnam broadens cultural exchange between young people from around the world, helping them develop a deeper understanding and appreciation of each others’ culture and fostering global citizenship. We are proud to be able to expand AFS scholarships to Vietnam and start offering these transformative experiences to more young people globally,” said Daniel Obst, President and CEO of AFS Intercultural Programs.

To guide the AFS efforts in Vietnam, AFS has assembled an Advisory Council that includes outstanding leaders, AFS program alumni, and other experts. Meet the Advisory Council members here.

Applications are now open for Vietnamese high school students to participate in exchange programs in the following 10 countries: Canada, China, Denmark, France, Germany, Italy, South Korea, New Zealand, and The Philippines. AFS will award 10 full scholarships specifically for France, Germany, Italy and Thailand.

To be eligible, candidates must be Vietnamese high school students with a keen interest in global citizenship and a curiosity to explore new cultures. Talented young people from all backgrounds who reflect the diversity of the population, particularly young women, underrepresented populations, and students with financial need, are strongly encouraged to apply. The deadline for scholarship applications is March 8, 2024.

Scholarships for virtual exchanges will be launched in July 2024. Applications and more information are available at vietnam.afs.org.
