1/12/2005 - Celebrating the Holidays with AFS Panama
For a group of foreign participants and volunteers this year brought a very special holiday. The AFS Panama chapters in the Province of ChiriquÃ, with the leadership of Jorge Requena, the newly elected National Chair; organized a Christmas party in a remote indigenous village where everyone was invited. Children and their parents, who would otherwise have very little, or nothing at all at this time of the year celebrated with a holiday meal, toys, games and prizes.
Local fund-raising provided the gifts and food, and Ms. Jessica Erier, a former AFS participant to Panama returned from Canada, with over 200 new shoes for the entire village, which she acquired through fund-raising in her home community.
Everyone had a great time, and all were thankful for the intercultural exchange of holiday gifts and for the AFS spirit.
